You’ve heard the dialogue ‘what if technology falls into the wrong hands’ like a million times in your life.Well this time it’s the Iphone 3G that really takes the cake. This gizmo has turned out to be virtually a gift wrapped blessing for criminals.
A leading digital forensics expert from the Serious Fraud Office revealed that the Iphone’s ability to remotely wiped out could be majorly exploited by lawbreakers.
Not clear? Let me make it simpler – the police catches criminals, they confiscate the criminal's iPhone for rigorous checking, but they find out that some guy has called the phone and wiped all the evidence. Easy come easy go isn’t it?
Say hello to the new hair tearing headache for digital forensics teams - ‘the shift away from PCs towards mobile devices’.
The forensic expert said: "It is a concern that society is moving more towards using mobile phones. The PC architecture is usually stable but with mobile devices they change daily. If a mobile device comes out tomorrow we will not be able to look at it until a tool becomes available.â€
Of course you might argue that one can still analyze the Iphone by photographing every screen on it… you’re right, but the hitch is, you won't be able to get hidden data on it, making photographing every screen a totally impractical method. The Iphone was a raging success… and now criminals have lately been turning it into the Apple of their eyes.
Iphone - A total waste
