Rock On unites a maverick film director, a rocker cum actor and two Channel V VJs.
These bunch of bigwigs include Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Luke Keny and Purab Kohli. And an amalgamation of these four dudes and the writers of Dil Chahta Hai explodes in your face like a really brilliant firecracker.
Rock On is not only outstanding as a film, but is a true masterpiece on celluloid. The movie works dramatically in addition to being an entertainment. After forgettable flicks like Mission Istanbul, God Tussi great ho, Chamku and Bachna Ae Haseeno, Rock On roars into the scene, blowing away the glut of Bollywood garbage.
Rock On does NOT suffer the ābeen there done thatā syndrome, which is sublimely refreshing. Writers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani have put together a screenplay with a lot of thought, heart and care.
Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli and Luke Kenny are four friends who put together the greatest rock band of India, appropriately named Magic. Unfortunately they never make it to the top. Years later, father fate spins a lucky web, bringing them back together, setting them on a journey back to where they left off... a soul-searching pilgrimage into their past.
Even though it has a few shades of āThat thing you doā, Rock On is rock solid on its own with some tremendous performances by the stars. Farhan Akhtar as Aditya Shroff is the lead vocalist of the band. His character is very convincing as the Malcolm X of music. Farhan plays his role like he was born for it. And GOSH he sings well!!
Arjun Rampal gives the best performance of his career as Joe Mascarenhas, the idealistic Lead Guitarist. If you thought Om Shanti Om was the zenith of Rampalās career, you were way off.
Purab Kohli is excellent as K.D the drummer. Purab has come a long way from Veejaying on Channel V to a school TV series⦠and makes a huge leap from Bollywood drivel like Vaastu Shastra to this cinematic wonder.
Luke Kenny plays the keyboard artist Rob Nancy and is in all his element⦠Luke is the only true rocker of the ensemble and floats through the movie with silken charisma.
Both females Prachi Desai and Shahana Goswami are absolute eye candy. Director Abhishek Kapoor made sure they were not given rock band bimbo roles. Koel Puri makes a great little cameo. Prachi Desai in particular hogs the limelight and brings a spanking new energy to the film.
Rock On is an absolute treat for all the senses. It would be completely nonsensical to miss such awesome filmmaking. Vastly recommended.
Our Verdict:
Jansu picture he--farhan was
Jansu picture he--farhan was too good
Take a bow Prachi
I read an article somewhere about the Bahu being a Babe under the sari and dyammmmmmm is the article true. Prachi's role wasn't long but fuh sure significant and positive. At the age of what 19 she has given a poised and mature performance and showed alot of potentional. She made Bani what it was and yet there was no Bani in Sakshi. It was just Sakshi. Take a bow lady. For me the surprise was how good Farhan and Prachi looked as husband-wife. Take bow Farhan and Prachi. Honest and Genuine acting.
Arjun surpised me with his intense portrayal of a failed man. I thought he was shitty actor. He also has shown his potential. Three cheers for Arjun. More of an actor now than model. Purab was wicked funny and added the much need humor.
Overall good movie. Nice story. Well directed. Rock On ROCKS the HOUSE
